Celebrate Bastille Day At These Washington, D.C. French Restaurants

BY Blog Editor

Every July 14, the French celebrate Bastille Day, which marks the anniversary of the Storming of the Bastille in 1789, a major event of the French Revolution. Here in Washington, D.C., we’re a ways away from the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe, but we can still celebrate the holiday at home in the United States.

This Bastille Day, head to these French restaurants near your Wray apartment for a festive and authentic meal of boeuf bourguignon, bouillabaisse or cassoulet (and go ahead, try your best at pronouncing them.)

Le Diplomate, located at 1601 14th St NW, Washington, D.C. which is 10 minutes from your Wray apartment, is an old-fashioned restaurant with outdoor seating serving familiar French fare, brunch staples and drinks.

Built out of a historic structure that harnesses the spirit of a Parisian brasserie, Le Diplomate pays subtle tribute to tradition, imbuing every meal with a sense of European drama. The extensive menu features a variety of Gallic classics, including onion soup gratinée, steak frites and escargots, as well as daily plates such as bouillabaisse and cassoulet. A thoughtfully curated wine list and specialty cocktail program complete the experience.

La Chaumiere, located at 2813 M St NW, Washington, D.C. which is six minutes from your Wray apartment, is a local staple has traditional French fare and a rustic feel with a stone fireplace and country-inn decor.

La Chaumière is as close as it gets to dining in a French country inn. The unpretentious atmosphere is enhanced by the central stone fireplace, wood beams and stucco walls, as it offers a rustic and romantic escape from city life. Loyal patrons are regularly dazzled by the consistent quality of food prepared by Chef de Cuisine Patrick Moulet.
